Move over Jack Sparrow, Dwayne Johnson is ready to be the new face of Disney theme parks turned into movies and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Determined to star in every single movie made in the future, Dwayne Johnson adds yet another potential franchise to his ever expanding to-do list. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Dwayne Johnson is set to star in Jungle Cruise, based on the classic Disney theme park ride of the same name. Focus writers/directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are on board to write the script, though they are not currently attached to direct. Jungle Cruise is one of the original Disneyland rides which sends parkgoers on a trip down a river on a boat to encounter dangerous animals and the occasional headhunter. A film has been in the works since 2004 when Pirates of the Caribbean became a hit and Disney was looking to turn other rides into potential moneymaking films. The latest iteration of Jungle Cruise was in 2011 when the project was being developed as a potential vehicle for Toy Story duo, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. That film was to be set in modern times, but The Rock’s version will take the story back to the rides old school roots and will be inspired by films like The African Queen, which was the original inspiration for the ride. When news of the film broke, Johnson took to Twitter to announce his excitement for the project saying quote, “Goal is to make this insanely cool and fun for fans ‘round the globe…My bud Depp and PIRATES set the high standard. Now the fun part starts…we put in the work.” No word yet on when we can expect Jungle Cruise to arrive in theaters as Johnson already has a pretty full dance card. He’s currently filming next year’s action-comedy Central Intelligence with Aaron Paul and Kevin Hart and will follow that up with Baywatch with Zac Efron early next year. He also has Fast 8 which will film next year for an April 14th, 2017 release, Shazam on April 5th, 2019, a third Journey movie and the recently announced Big Trouble in Little China remake and a movie based on the Rampage video game among others. Johnson is also the voice of “Maui” in Disney’s upcoming Moana, set to arrive in theaters on November 23rd next year. So, what do you think of a movie based on Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride and where does it fall on the list of Johnson’s other upcoming movies as far as your excitement level?
