Star Wars: The Force Awakens is nearly here, but diehard fans may not be getting the experience they were hoping for and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver News Feed. There is a great disturbance in the Force and the source is your local movie theater. Seeing a Star Wars film opening night dressed as your favorite character and wielding a lightsaber has become a rite of passage for many fans, but that could now be a thing of the past. Several major theater chains have announced that not all Star Wars costumes will be allowed at screenings when The Force Awakens arrives in theaters on December 18th. The third largest theater chain in the U.S., Cinemark, has banned face coverings, face paint and simulated weapons, particularly lightsabers and blasters, from showings of the film. While they do allow some Star Wars costumes, it looks like all those fans planning to show up dressed as new baddie “Kylo Ren”, will be out of luck. As for AMC, the number 2 chain in the U.S., they have also banned masks and blasters, but will allow lightsabers as long as they are switched off during the movie. Though Regal Cinemas has not released a specific statement when it comes to The Force Awakens, they have previously banned masks and “weapon-like props”, which would seem to suggest lightsabers will not be allowed. While this is unwanted news for many Star Wars fans, the policies are not new or specific to the film. Most have been in place since 2012 after the theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises. With individual theaters each having their own policies about costumes and props, it’s best to contact the theater you plan to see The Force Awakens at directly, but what do you think? Are the bans on masks and lightsabers a good thing or do they take away from the experience of seeing Star Wars on the big screen? I’m Danielle Robay, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon right here on Clevver News Feed.
